Training

The primary source of training is conducted through the county fire coordinator office of certified New York State Fire Training given by NYS Fire Instructors. Each member is required to obtain within two years of membership the Basic Exterior Firefighting Operations (BEFO) and/or Interior Firefighting Operations (IFO) course, and any other classes needed by the member. Equipment is maintained by the officers. In house Training for members of the Theresa Fire Department is given by the Chief, 1st and 2nd Assistant Chiefs, Captain and Lieutenant monthly and a record of their training is kept on file in the filing cabinet in their personnel file.

Each member is required to meet the required eight hours of training mandated by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration and sixteen hours for all members with less than one year of service to the department. Anyone who is wishing to go to the NYS FIRE ACADEMY at Montour Falls, NY or the National Fire Academy in Maryland shall inform the Chief of such and their tuition, lodge and meals will be paid for by the Fire Department while that person is attending a NYS/National Fire School.
