The primary functions of the Department is to perform firefighting operations which do not exceed the capabilities of the members present to prevent fires that begin in wildlands from extending to structures or other property and/or to keep fire which originate in structures from extending to other structures or resources.
While protective clothing has been provided to each member, the members are not expected to perform interior firefighting in cases where the chief officer feels it is too dangerous. Dangerous means when it is too hot or floor joist are too weak to carry a firefighter, or are partially burned through or ceiling rafters are weak or the possibility of an explosion, etc.
In a community of approximately 3,000 people it is difficult to identity all the possible emergency conditions, which might occur. The Fire Department also makes use of material from the county fire coordinators office to provide fire safety education to the citizens within the community.
